Temporary Skill Shortage visa (Subclass 482)

skilled Australian workforce needs from the local labour market.

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 494)

A provisional visa that allows employers to sponsor overseas workers to live and work in regional Australia on a temporary basis. This visa is designed to assist regional employers who are unable to
meet their skilled Australian workforce needs from the local labour market.

Employer Nomination Scheme visa (Subclass 186)

A permanent visa that allows Australian employers to fill highly skilled positions with suitably qualified migrants. The scheme is designed to assist employers who are unable to meet their skilled Australian workforce needs from the local labour market.

Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189)

A permanent visa that allows highly skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, State or Territory of Australia, or family member, to live and work permanently in Australia.

Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190)

A permanent visa that allows highly skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian State or Territory to live and work permanently in Australia

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 491)

A provisional visa that allows invited skilled workers to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia (specified by postcode) for up to five years.

Partner visa (Subclass 820/801 and 309/100)

A visa that allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to enter or remain in Australia. The applicant is initially granted a temporary visa and is eligible for permanent residency if the relationship still exists after a two-year waiting period.

Prospective Marriage visa (Subclass 300)

A visa that allows the fiancé(e) of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to travel to Australia to be married. The marriage must take place within nine months of the visa grant date, following which the applicant is eligible to apply for a Partner visa.

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa (Subclass 461)

A temporary visa that allows non-New Zealand citizens to travel to and live in Australia with a New Zealand citizen family member.

Training visa (Subclass 407)

A temporary visa that allows people to undertake occupational training in Australia to meet occupational registration or licensing requirements; to enhance skills in their occupation; or for capacity building overseas.

Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa (Subclass 400)

A temporary visa that allows people to travel to Australia for short-term, highly specialised, non-ongoing work.

Skills Assessments

The Department of Home Affairs requires visa applicants to supply Skills Assessments in support of a range of Skilled visa applications and Expressions of Interest (EOIs). In some cases, overseas workers are also required to supply Skills Assessments in support of employer-sponsored visa applications.
